Elder Law

Elder Law

Unlike most other areas of law, elder law is defined by the client served, rather than the area of law.

The National Elder Law Foundation, which certifies elder law attorneys in the United States, defines five core areas of elder law. These areas are:

  • Health and personal care planning
  • Pre-mortem estate planning
  • Fiduciary representation
  • Legal capacity counseling
  • Public benefits advice

Additionally, the National Elder Law Foundation includes special needs planning as a part of elder law.

Americans have never lived as long as we are living now. And, while aging brings unique joys, it also brings difficult challenges, most of which our clients face for the first time in their life. In particular, in the final decade of an older person’s life, things can become complicated and expensive, and they can change very, very fast.
