What is a CELA?

What is a CELA?

A Certified Elder Law Attorney is a licensed attorney who has been officially certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, the organization created by Congress to certify elder law attorneys. A Certified Elder Law Attorney is often called a “CELA” for short.

To become a certified elder law attorney, an attorney must go through a robust certification process that features, most notably, an examination. The exam is designed to be difficult to ensure that the attorney representing seniors has mastered difficult concepts that affect seniors and their families. Our team at Valley Estate & Elder Law is proud to be led by Certified Elder Law Attorney Zach Anderson. Zach tells friends and colleagues that taking the CELA exam was “the most amount of fun he never wants to have again.”
